Kit auto-costruzione spazio infanzia – wikifactory

kindergarten furniture kit

This is an open source kindergarten furniture kit.

The kit supports self-organised kindergartens to easily build their own safe and kid-friendly furniture with the use of a fablab laser cutter and simple assembly guidelines. All furniture is made without glue and screws, plus it is lightweight and easy to move around. The kit includes a cube sit, a bench sit, a floor bed, a trapezoid table and an heater cover.

Our kit is inspired by the Montessori Method which believes furniture should be made of natural materials like wood and should be child size and lightweight to stimulate children’s autonomy.

This collection was done for Soprasotto, a self-organized kindergarten based in Milan, but the idea of the kit is to support and easily spread this useful experience throughout different cities.

Bench sit

The bench sit  is a stretched version of the cube sit.

Soprasotto is a self managed kindergarten created in Milan in 2013 by a group of parents and educators. The purpose of this kindergarten is to make up for the lack of places in the public kindergartens and to create a space for both kids and adults, closer to the ongoing transformations in working conditions and family forms.
This kit is done by Lyne Dumoulin & Poorvik Patel between 14 May and 6 July 2018, with the support of WeMake, within the EU funded project DSI4eu.
